UNDERSTAND THE IDEA

Give things a place

A yellow folder holding a holiday photograph and a checklist together.
A folder can keep related files together. A new folder starts empty; you put files inside it later.
What am I going to do?

You are going to create a folder called Holiday plans in Documents.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to choose a location and name a folder so you can find it again.

A file is a saved item, such as a photo or a letter. A folder is a place to keep related files together. A useful name helps you recognise what belongs there.

Photo, letter and budget files are grouped inside a folder labelled Holiday.
The location matters

File Explorer is the Windows app for looking through files and folders. We’ll put your new folder inside Documents, so you know where to find it.

File Explorer shows folders inside Documents, with a newly created folder ready to name.
