UNDERSTAND THE IDEA
When this helps
What am I going to do?
Read the idea, learn the key combination and answer a question about when it would help.
What will I learn?
Know when and how to choose everything in one area.
When a whole group needs the same treatment, selecting it together saves repeated work. A selection marks what the next action will affect; it does not itself copy, move or remove anything.

Where it works Many text fields, document apps and File Explorer
Ctrl+A
Key names are shown separately, not as a keyboard layout. A + between key boxes means combine them. A box named Plus means the actual Plus key. Follow the steps below for alternatives.
1How to use it
First click once in the area you mean to use, such as the text box containing an address. Hold Ctrl, tap A once, then release both keys. Check what becomes highlighted before doing anything else. In File Explorer, this can select the items in the current folder.
2What to watch for
The active area matters: one text box and a whole document are different targets. Typing can replace selected text, and Delete can remove selected items. If the wrong things are highlighted, click once where you want to work to clear or change the selection, then check again.
You can learn this shortcut without pressing it here. The real keys act on your computer or the app you are using.
CHOOSE THE USEFUL ACTION
When would you use it?
A delivery address box contains an old address. You want to replace every part of it, while leaving the other form boxes alone. What is the best starting point?
Click inside that address box and select all of its text.
