What will I learn?
Know when and how to add a slanted text style.
Italic text leans to one side. It can gently distinguish a book title or a particular phrase without giving it the heavier appearance of bold text. Use it where the change in style has a clear purpose.

Key names are shown separately, not as a keyboard layout. A + between key boxes means combine them. A box named Plus means the actual Plus key. Follow the steps below for alternatives.
1How to use it
In a formatted document, hold the left mouse button and drag across the words you want to change, then release it. Hold Ctrl, tap I once, then release both keys. The selected text should become italic. Repeat on the same selection to remove the style.
2What to watch for
If no words are selected, italic usually applies to your next typing. This needs an editor with formatting support. On a webpage outside its editor, Ctrl + I may open a browser feature instead, so first click once in the document you are editing.
You can learn this shortcut without pressing it here. The real keys act on your computer or the app you are using.
CHOOSE THE USEFUL ACTION
When would you use it?
In your reading-group notes, you want a book title to lean slightly while the surrounding sentence stays upright. Which formatting choice fits?
Apply italic to the title only.
