The keys and what happens
Where it works Microsoft Edge on Windows. These shortcuts also work in Chrome; other apps may behave differently.
Ctrl+T
Key names are shown separately, not as a keyboard layout. A + between key boxes means combine them. A box named Plus means the actual Plus key. Follow the steps below for alternatives.
1How to use it
With the browser in front, hold Ctrl, tap T once, then release both keys. A new tab becomes active. Type a web address or search words, then press and release Enter. Click the title of the earlier tab once when you want to return to it.
2What to watch for
A new tab is different from a new browser window and does not duplicate the previous page. If you opened it by mistake, hold Ctrl, tap W, then release both to close that active tab. Check which tab is active before closing.
You can learn this shortcut without pressing it here. The real keys act on your computer or the app you are using.
CHOOSE THE USEFUL ACTION
When would you use it?
You are reading a recipe and want to look up an ingredient while keeping the recipe available. Which action fits?
