UNDERSTAND THE IDEA
When this helps
What am I going to do?
Read the idea, learn the key combination and answer a question about when it would help.
What will I learn?
Know when and how to return to pages you visited.
A tab can remember a sequence of pages you have visited. Back and Forward help you return along that sequence without entering the addresses again.
LEARN THE SHORTCUT
The keys and what happens
Where it works Microsoft Edge on Windows. These shortcuts also work in Chrome; other apps may behave differently.
Alt+Left arrow
Key names are shown separately, not as a keyboard layout. A + between key boxes means combine them. A box named Plus means the actual Plus key. Follow the steps below for alternatives.
1How to use it
With the browser in front, hold Alt, tap the Left arrow key, then release both keys to go back in the current tab. After going back, hold Alt, tap the Right arrow key, then release both to go forward again, if a later visit is available.
2What to watch for
This follows visits within the current tab, not the row of other open tabs. A new tab may have nowhere to go back to, and Forward may be unavailable if you have not gone back. Save unfinished website work first, because leaving a page can lose entries. If you go back too far, try Alt + Right arrow to return.
You can learn this shortcut without pressing it here. The real keys act on your computer or the app you are using.
CHOOSE THE USEFUL ACTION
When would you use it?
In one tab, you followed a link from an event page to its venue page. You now want the event page again. Which action fits?
Go back through this tab's previous visit.
